Wayanad is exactly 250 km from Bangalore, via Mysore, Gundalpet. From Mysore take the ootty route (NH 213) and after reaching Gundalpet which is about 55 KM from Mysore, take the right turn. After about 1 hour drive – 55 KM – you will reach the city of Sulthan Bathery.
Make sure you reach the border which is about 220 KM from Bangalore before 21:00 because the road through the wildlife reserve will still be closed between 21:00 and 18:00.
The trip from Gundalpet to Bathery will be a memorable trip as you pass through Bandipur and Wayanad national parks. Don’t be surprised if you are stopped by naughty Tusker.
If you plan to travel by bus, there are many buses starting from the Satellite site on the Mysore road. Kerala RTC buses are available every hour from 6 AM to 4 PM and then from 11PM to 12 Midnight.
There is no train service to Wayanad, the nearest railway station is Mysore which is 110 KM away from Bathery and Kozhikode which is around 70 KM from Kalpetta.
Taxi’s are easily available at Bathery and you need one to visit all the places inWayanad, as public transport to the tourist spots are poor.
All types of taxis are available but Jeep is one of the most used and available transport and is also the cheapest one. This is the better vehicle which can take you easily to the places like Edakkal cave and deep into the forest
You can stay at Bathery or at Kalpetta which is 25 KM from Bathery on the NH 213 route. There are a number of good hotels to stay as well as resorts and inns.
There is no city in the name Wayanad, but rather consists of three main cities, Sulthan Bathery, Kalpetta and Manathavady. There are small cities namely Pulpally, Meenagadi and so on.
